Bloc Collective writer/director Joe Carter recently made the short film Bound with funding from SFTN, starring Laura Ferries and Christian Ortega, who played the lead role in the critically acclaimed film Beats, produced by Stephen Soderberg.
It was shot over four days in Leith, wrapped a week before lockdown, and was edited during the pandemic. Bloc HQ served as a meeting space, fight rehearsal space, make-up and costume test space and unit base during filming days. Other members contributed massively to various elements of the finished film, including data wrangling and DIT, graphics, poster design, hooking the producer and director up with locations, props and cast and generally being extremely supportive. The film is called BOUND and went on to screen at several film festivals around the world, including Atlanta, Norwich, Edinburgh, Dinard, Short Com, Leith Late, Courtoujours, Fenetres sur Court, Fete du Court Metrage, Kyiv and BBC Comedy Festival in May 2022. It won the Audience Award at Dinard and aired on Cine+ in 2022.
